Eyelid Surgery or Blepharoplasty is one of the most commonly performed procedures for both men and women in the UK. This operation is to remove the excess tissue from hooded upper and puffy lower eyelids.
More commonly known as an eyebrow droop, eyebrow ptosis can cause significant overhang of the upper eyelid skin over lashes, interfering with vision and leaving an unsightly appearance. It is usually bilateral but can be asymmetrical, only appearing on one side.
Ptosis is the medical term for drooping of the upper eyelid, a condition that may affect one or both eyes. Ptosis which occurs in early childhood is called congenital. One which presents later is an ‘acquired ptosis’.
Eyelid and facial lumps and bumps are not un-common. Many lesions can be readily diagnosed on the basis of their characteristics and can include the following: skin tags, cysts, raised skin blemishes etc.
Ectropian and Endropian Surgery
Ectropian describes the outward turning, and Entropian is used to describe the inward turning of the lower eyelid and lashes away from the eye and is usually caused by relaxation of the eyelid muscles as a result of ageing.
Skin cancers can affect the eyelids or peri-ocular region of the face.
Thyroid eye disease is most commonly associated with a disorder of the thyroid gland – hyperthyroidism and can also be known as Graves’ ophthalmopathy/orbitopathy and Thyroid Associated Ophthalmopathy (TAO).
